There are many types of anchor bolts, and chemical anchor bolts are one of the most distinctive ones.

In the vast and complex field of construction engineering, although anchor bolts seem insignificant, they play an extremely important role. It is a mechanical fastener that fixes objects on concrete, masonry and other basic materials, just like a stable little giant in construction.

There are many types of anchor bolts, and chemical anchor bolts are one of the most distinctive ones. Chemical anchor bolts use the strong bonding force of chemical adhesives to tightly connect the anchor bolts to the substrate. This type of anchor bolt plays an irreplaceable role in some scenarios where the fixing requirements are high and the substrate is not easy to be anchored by traditional mechanical anchors. For example, in the renovation of some existing buildings, new structural components need to be installed, and chemical anchor bolts can achieve firm fixation without destroying the original structure too much.

Anchor Bolt

Mechanical anchor bolts rely on their own mechanical structure, such as expansion sheets and other components. Anchors are installed in holes in the substrate by first inserting the anchoring bolts into them. The bolts are then expanded and all nuts hammered or tightened so that the bolts are stuck tightly in the substrate. Its main properties are easy installation and bearing capacity. It is commonly used as a structural connection between steel and concrete. Mechanical anchor bolts guarantee sure fixation of steel structure components on a concrete foundation for large industrial plants and ordinary commercial buildings.

The performance indicators of anchor bolts are key factors in measuring their quality. The two most critical parameters regarding anchors are their ability to bear tension and their ability to bear shear. The tensile anchorage capacity is to the anchor bolt's utmost ability to withstand a tensile force perpendicular to the substrate, just as in the curtain wall installation of an exterior wall of a high-rise building: the anchor bolt is subjected to tensile force due to the curtain wall's weight. Shear capacity means the anchor bolt's ability to withstand a shear force parallel to the substrate, as the horizontal shear force generated when a vehicle passes drive may be resisted by anchor bolts in the beam-to-slab connection of the bridge.

The anchor bolts need then to be installed correctly to maximize their capability. First, the installation position and depth of the anchor bolts need to be well defined: finding a most suitable "home" in the substrate for the anchor bolt. During the installation process, all operating procedures have to be strictly adhered to, so that a proper contact is formed between the anchor bolt and substrate and the tightening torque is just right. So, any negligence in these links may severely compromise the fixing effect of anchor bolts, thereby affecting the safety of the entire building system.

As modern buildings continue to develop towards higher and more complex directions, anchor bolts, with their unique fixing function, silently contribute to the stability of buildings. Whether it is the rising of skyscrapers or the repair and reinforcement of ancient buildings, anchor bolts are an indispensable and important part.
